Tapojärvi Oy has launched a trial in which employees are offered an opportunity for a guided, comprehensive fitness overhaul. The pilot is taking place at the Tornio Body Center, which also offers group exercise classes and nutrition coaching in addition to guided and independent gym sessions.

Tomi Pekkala, 30, who works as a process operator in Röyttä, Tornio, has been selected as the first test person for the fitness overhaul. Pekkala has a background in sports because, around ten years ago, he played in ice hockey teams including Kärpät, Tappara and Pelicans.

The 30-year-old father of small children wants to achieve the same body composition figures that he had during his active playing career.

“Having a trainer gives me more motivation. In addition to improving my fitness level, I want to rediscover the joy of sports and exercise”, says Pekkala.

At the moment, Tomi Pekkala’s motivation is high and the goal does not seem impossible anymore. He wants to encourage everyone who needs it to participate in the fitness overhaul, regardless of their starting level.

“Being in bad shape causes distress and a sense of shame. Ultimately, the hardest thing was getting me to just walk down these stairs for the first time and get started”, Pekkala admits.

“The next time was already much easier as I knew that nobody would be judging me except myself.”

Why a fitness overhaul?

• Good basic physical fitness means coping with everyday life, not world-class sports.

• Good basic fitness also keeps your mind alert and your daily motivation high.

• A motivated employee also achieves better results at work.
