Tapojärvi Innovation Challenge seeks novel solutions for extracting valuable substances from waste or side streams in three areas of the raw materials industry: Stainless steel, Mining and Forest industry.
Five student groups have been selected for the final of the innovation competition and they will present their circular economy ideas.
The competition received applications from a total of 29 teams from 14 different countries, from 22 universities and totalling 71 students represented 43 different nationalities.
After a pre-selection process, five teams were selected to present their new circular economy ideas to an international jury on Friday 27 October.
The winning team’s innovation may be developed into a sustainable circular economy service product at Tapojärvi.
The winner of the competition was TeamReact, whose idea was to combine fly ash, a by-product of the forest industry, with wood to produce activated carbon for air and water purification.
